Step 1: Walk up to museum door.
Step 2: Think to oneself: “Hmm, door looks dark, cardboard signages are not brought out and are all still behind the doors.”
Step 3: Check the opening hours online. Scratch head and wonder why the museum is closed when it’s supposed to be opened.
Step 4: Call the tourist hotline to confirm that the museum is supposed to be open.
Step 5: Officer confirms the opening hours and being the helpful staff that they are, attempt to call the museum to check.
Step 6: Listen to the staff tell you that “Oh! It is INDEED open, you just need to push the door open!”
Step 7: Look for a hole to climb into as the museum staff personally opens the door to tell you it’s open.
Step 8: Pay the entrance fees, make small talk and attempt to contain your embarrassment.
Step 9: Run away from the staff as fast as possible. Listen to them laughing at you while you run away.
Step 10: Remember to “TRY TO OPEN THE FREAKING DOOR NEXT TIME BEFORE CALLING FOR HELP” for future use to avoid future embarrassing stories.
*Names are not mentioned to protect the sensibility of people involved. Museum’s name has also not been included to prevent any recognition.*
In defense, please let it be known that there were TWO doors. You had to get through the outside door before getting to the inside door. Thus, area in between looked dark and had no life. AND! They were tinted doors!! (I think…)
Have you encountered any embarrassing moments while travelling? Please do share! 🙂
Oh goodness I have pulled on doors for minutes before stopping long enough to read the massive sign that says PUSH. Always good to be able to laugh at oneself. 🙂

LOL..I can imagine how you felt! I did have embarrassing moment as well 😀 It was in HK, I ordered a menu as according to a picture – at that time I was lost on its English translation. Anyway, the picture showed a plate of chili pepper with fried meat. Dutchie warned me to reconsider it as it looked too spicy. I said I can handle any spicy food. What happened then, the dish was actually a plate with full of dried red chili pepper with little bit of meat. It was very spicy but I was to embarrassed to admit it to Dutchie so I finished it. I was punished later that night – I had to go the toilet more than usual!! And, yeah, Dutchie knew it was too spicy for me 😀

I have had a few embarrassing moments while traveling. However, usually my husband is the only one who witnesses my ‘not so bright’ moments. But sometimes I would rather a stranger witness those moments – as I don’t need to live with them. However, he has had his fair share that I have duly noted as well! 😉
