5 Ways Blogging has Changed Me

sydney harbour bridge

So. A year has passed since I started to open myself up in this blog. The past year has been life changing ever since I’ve opened up my mind and life to the whole world. I’ve learnt a lot about myself, about others as well as a few other things I would never have thought me do.

So I thought to round up my thoughts on a few notable changes that I have noticed since then.

1. You are forever taking photos.
One of the biggest change ever. When I first started my blog, I had very little photos of my own, other than those during holidays. Today, it’s a case of take everything and anything that I can capture, even if it’s just with my phone. My poor friends are constantly waiting for me because I end up lagging behind to take photos or they are even stopped from eating just for me to take a photo first. Well, good thing they are very good friends of mine. 🙂

2. You can max out your data plan.
Ok, I may not always be that active online but I have had occasions when I maxed out my data plan because I use my phone to catch up a lot. I do have a large data allowance but I have never had to max out or even exceed my data allowance before I started my blog. Now, I end up looking for wi-fi first and use my data plan only when necessary.

3. You learn more about your own country.
If there is one thing that this has taught me, it has made me explore more places than I usually do, especially in Singapore. I’ve deliberately set off to explore places as a photography outing or to do research only to learn so much more. When I am asked for travel advice for Singapore, information that I thought were common turns out to be otherwise for someone unfamiliar with Singapore. Blogging definitely made me explore more within my own area.

4. You are always learning from online friends.
Be it about food, culture, activities, or even IT and social media tips, I have learnt so much more from everyone online. I cannot tell the times that I have started a discussion during lunch with my colleagues or friends based on information shared online. Isn’t it interesting to see the differences or similarities with others even if they are all over the world? Never would I have thought that weather would be a major point of discussion when I get constantly reminded about the dreariness of winter if I complain about the heat and humidity here. Let’s all just agree to disagree on that point. 🙂

5. Your brains never stop writing for the blog.
If only I can have a transcriber for my brains, this blog would be chock full of posts. I compose in my head all the time, while walking to catch the bus, while walking to lunch at work, while talking with friends. Ideas may just pop out or I may suddenly begin composing passages in my head. Not all of them always end up here but if I have an idea that does not go away, I have to make sure I write it down to remember it.

So, I can go on with more but it’s always good to save some for thought, no? These 5 are really significant for me and I like to mark the new start of a decade for me by reflecting on these changes. How about you? How has blogging changed you since? Please do share. 🙂

  1. Totally relate to the first point. I take far too many photos and my camera seems to come with me everywhere. However, it is all good because I love taking photos and improving my photography skills. Plus, it will be awesome to look back on them in the future!! 🙂 Happy Friday!! It’s nearly the weekend!

    • Oh yes! I like taking photos too but I am contemplating getting a smaller camera cos the one that I have is pretty bulky and heavy. ..then I can just bring it along with me everywhere..hehe..and yes, it’s TGIF! Can’t wait to get a good rest from this stressful week…enjoy your weekend! 😄

      • I actually have two cameras. One is a Canon DSLR but I find that pretty big and heavy. I have a Sony which I usually bring with me when I am out and about. It is lightweight, has an amazing zoom, has both manual and automatic functions, and the macro function is awesome. I had an older one from the same Sony series and I took over 50,000 pics with it before it called it quits.

      • Oh, which model is the sony? I have a canon G12 which is a bit too heavy for me to be lugging around everywhere but am thinking of getting a sony A5000..😄

    • Lol…well, it’s not too bad here either but well, to max out 4GB of data is pretty a lot, especially if I have to pay for those extra usage! Oh, the photo is from my climb up the Sydney Harbour Bridge…😄

    • Oh yes, that is definitely one of it. I really wish I can just have someone transcribe all my thoughts for me. That would sure make it easier for me. Haha..😄

  2. hahaha the EXACT same changes happened to me!! Especially when it comes to taking photos… my hubby sometimes gets tired of it, poor him, he is always waiting for me. Oh well, and learning from other bloggers has been amazing, I begin my day thinking of new stories I will read! Sometimes is hard to keep it up with everyone, but I never disappear 100% 😀 ❤
Congratulations on 1 year blogging… soon it will be me too! Crazy how time flies by!

  3. I agree with all of these. I live in China and though the DSLR camera I use is big and bulky, I still carry it around anyway! One of the biggest ways blogging has changed me is that I read so many other blogs (and I love it!) I look forward to it and I learn so much. Thanks for sharing your blogging experiences!
